A Description of the Character:
Physical Description:
Human: Tobias is of average height at 5'9" and is almost too skinny, he always looks like he could use a good meal and he won't protest if you feed him either. Shaggy, unkempt dark hair is perpetually being brushed out his face, he never really thinks to get a haircut and desperately needs one. His clothes are as ignored as the rest of him, usually consisting of baggy jeans that are too big and a ratted t-shirt and a jacket. All his clothes are shabby and second hand or from Goodwill. His shoes are no better, although they usually fit at least. Tobias prefers functionality to asthetics, though he wouldn't protest if someone cleaned him up. He'd probably appreciate it even. He has no jewelry except a digitil stopwatch he wears around his neck.
Hawk: young adult red-trailed hawk weighing 2.6lbs. 21 inches long with a wingspan of 54inches. Overall, he's fairly average as a hawk and very healthy.
Personality:
While Tobias was born human, his natural body now is a hawk and many hawk-like traits have leaked into his human mannerisms. Oftentimes he'll squint at things too far away instead of moving closer until he remembers he has human vision and not hawk vision or cock his head to one side when he is listening. As a hawk he only eats uncooked meat (preferably fresh that he just caught). In human form he detests meat that is too cooked - merely wave it near a flame and he is happy, but he will eat vegetables and other cooked foods. He does not eat chicken or other birds, ever. As a hawk he is meticulous when it comes to grooming and always behaves himself around humans (no landing on them if they are prepared for his talons, no pooping, etc). He dislikes enclosed spaces with no windows or places too small for him to fly in, even if he is in human form. Tobias also dislikes large groups of people and doctors poking at him, as a hawk or as a human. He does not trust easily and does his best to be invisible most of the time.
History:
Tobias Fangor was born to Loren and Al Fangor, a relationship doomed from the beginning. Al Fangor (real name Elfangor-Sirinial-Shamtul) was an Andalite war-prince on Earth fighting the Yeerks, cousins to the Goa'uld who had initially targeted the Andalite homeworld before making their way to Earth, who fell in love with a human woman. They had a child, Tobias, while Elfangor was in human form and shortly thereafter Elfangor disappeared to go back to the war. When Tobias was a little over a year old, his mother Loren, was in a car accident that blinded her and caused traumatic brain injury making her unable to care for a child. Tobias was sent to live with an aunt and she and an uncle took turns raising him, shipping him back and forth across the country every year or so.
Tobias's aunt did not care to have a child with her busy career and after some time she sent him to live wtih his uncle across the country. He didn't want a child either and Tobias grew up being shuttled from one relative to the other with little care as to what he was actually doing. After he started school he was frequently picked on by bullies and quickly became a social outcast. He took refuge in school and books.
Things changed when he was once again living with his uncle and was in junior high school though and he began making a few friends. While cutting through a construction site after school when they came across an Andalite ship that had crashed. They tried to help the Andalite inside, not realizing that it was an alien craft at first. It was too late, but the Andalite, named Elfangor, gave the kids the abilty to absorb a creatures DNA and then morph into that animal and the task to continue fighting the Yeerks. They soon discovered that they could not absorb or morph into their species and that while morphed they could use what they termed "thought speak" to talk to each other or to other humans.
They took the instructions to heart and despite their age, began waging a private war on the yeerks (the name the Andalites had given to the Goa'uld), unaware of military fighting a war with the goa'uld being waged only a state and planets away by the SGC. Tobias was the first 'casuality' of their group. They could only stay in a morph for two hours or they were stuck in that form as a nothlit. When Tobias was captured, he refused to de-morph and became stuck as a red-tailed hawk. His teammates rescued him before they killed him and he continued to fight as a hawk, learned to live as one and would study his friends textbooks at night to stay up with school. To the world in general, Tobias had finally run away.
A year after he became a nothlit, Tobias was given the ability to morph again including into his old human form, by Aximili-Esgarrouth-Isthill (Ax) an andalite arsith (military cadet), Efangor's younger brother. It was Ax that discovered Tobias's relationship with his brother through the disk that he had been given but had never been able to open. Unfortunantly though, the red-tailed hawk was Tobias's base form now and he could only morph human for 2 hours at a time just like before. So far, he has refused to become a human nothlit. Ax and Tobias became more than uncle and nephew, they became shorm, the Andalite word for warrior-brothers, a bond that could not be broken except in death. Ax was killed by the Yeerks not quite three years later.
Three years later, the SGC discovered the animorphs as they had dubbed themselves and now that they had all reached their human majority, they were sent to the Air Force Academy near the SGC so they could go to college and still fight the yeerks and now the goa'uld as well, except for Tobias who had never actually attended school since he was in the 8th grade and could not attend the Air Force Academy as a hawk. Tobias instead went to the Andalite homeworld to meet his family there and on the way back to Earth the ship he was on was attacked and he was stranded on an unknown planet for a month. A stargate was there and when a recon team came through it, Tobias recognized that they were not only human, but yeerk-free. He followed them back through the stargate to Atlantis.
He has been fighting the Goa'uld or Yeerks since he was 13 and while he is now almost 20, he does not know any other lifestyle than that of a hawk and a soldier. As far as he is concerned, the Goa'uld took his family - his father and uncle. His mother is stil on Earth and other than a few visits to a woman who never recognized him as a child, Tobias has barely met her. He will fight from Atlantis, if they'll have him and if decides to trust them.
